RE: Another use for ladder bike rack.

Now we can spot you in the parks or more importantly on the road.

RE: WARNING: Motorhome Burglaries in Albuquerque

We use one of these listed below. They offer the same services that Great Dane has and we use and appreciate them. I had not really thought of the vandalism part but it true. Indoors you don't have that part hopefully unless it is an inside job. We'll sleep better now. We've been in our for 3 years now. If your in the Sacramento area check it out. RE: Fuel milage by the pound

Not meaning to give you a hard time most of the real estate folks I know that dress for success drive a Lexus. The Escalade is a business vehicle that works well for it's purpose, and I enjoy driving it. it's a dress for success as owners of the two companies. A hard time is appreciated on occasion. Market slow.....playing Sudoku.. Lexus... Very very nice and we considered it. But here at Lake Tahoe.....seems everyone has them. Escalade's too for that mater. Probably the big difference is few women drive the big SUV's because of the size. They seem to like the midsize SUV's. The main reason for the Cad was we did have a 28' Formula B-4 the DP. (glad that's gone, it only got 1.3 MPG) To tow the 9000 boat and trailer up from Sacramento where we kept it in the winter to the lake in the summer, it did very well. Handled fantastic, plenty of power. I had towed many times with many different vehicles, and this was the best all around.

RE: Lake Tahoe Campgrounds

Great resort directly across the street from the lake. Half way between the north shore and the south shore. Zephyr Cove Resort You can also take a look at Camp Richardson, which is at South Lake Tahoe. Camp Richardson Here's another good one, very central and again right on the lake. Campground by the lake

RE: Fuel milage by the pound

The Escalade is a business vehicle that works well for it's purpose, and I enjoy driving it. We are in real estate, and back in the days when we were selling homes, (we still are just not as many) it's a dress for success as owners of the two companies. Now looking at mileage by the pound makes the MH feel like a good mode of travel. After all the Escalade doesn't have a bathroom nor a kitchen....so what more could we ask for? Hey that makes the miles per pound even better... I just put this thread out as a light hearted thing. I tell my agents to not hang around with other real estate agents as they are all too negative. Hang out with regular people and keep your good attitude. So, that's what I'm doing here, hanging out with regular people, and trying to keep us all from being too negative about gas prices and MPG. That's all....!!!

RE: Is Alpine Coach closed?

Fifteen years ago when Bill Doyle was still running the place and Ron was doing the sales, the quality was there and they did well. When Ron, who apparently liked to party, took over things started down. My brother, who was a VP at a Yakima advertising agency and did all their advertising work back then, has often visited with me about what went on during the heydays. He also did a lot of work for Beaver in those days and feels it's a shame both are now gone. When you say Beaver, is that the same Beaver product now made by Monaco?

RE: Cost of gas last trip

Look... Don't you think this huge increase in fuel hits everyone? DP, gassers, big SUV, little compacts? If your taking a trip in the 25 MPG car, it still costs more for fuel than last year or the year before. It is all relative. The hotels/motels cost more, the food costs more, Disneyland or where ever costs more, RV parks cost more, etc etc. Some will be forced to stop travel, others will cut back and some will just keep on moving forward. We are all fortunate to have the opportunity to make trips, create memories. They are priceless and can never be repeated exactly the same way. Are we changing some of our habits for 2008? Yes.. But we're still going. Maybe we should have been a bit less carefree in the past, who knows. But until the elbows hit the wooden coffin in the morning, we are traveling every opportunity we have. The ones I have concern about are those who must drive for a living and pay these fuel prices. Wow... That's scary. We are already feeling it in the goods and services we use.

RE: Fuel milage by the pound

I understand and agree.....gas vs diesel. I have a fair idea of drag co-efficiency. It is only that I complain sometimes about the DP mileage when in fact, it's really pretty good given its factors of weight, drag, HP (your right 400 HP). I'm not complain about the Escalade either. If I wanted better mileage, I would buy something accordingly. But, I enjoy the comfort, the physical size of safety (My wife was in a head-on a few years back and fortunate for her, she was in a SUV and the other person, in a compact car. She was relative unhurt by comparison. She went to the hospital in an ambulance, he went by care-flight.) So we simply will not own and drive vehicles smaller than the median size vehicles. It's all about justifications, accepting the mileage of each. We will buy green vehicles in the future when (hopefully) there is not the premium price on them.

RE: good grief II: obnoxious cg owner

to jlawless: how you arrived at the conclusion that we would enjoy a campground where dogs owners' do not clean up after them escapes me. Did you actually read the post or do you just automatically assume all dog owners must be to blame? or that we would enjoy stepping in dog poop any more than you would? I'm sure there are dog owners who don't bother to clean up after their dogs, and who give the rest of us a bad name, just as I am sure there are people who make ridiculous and baseless comments and give forums a bad name. Since we clean up after our dogs, I will leave you to clean up after yourself. Or perhaps you'd be happier at a forum that allows people to spew venom all over the place. Yes......... Thank you. I ignore people like this. But I agree with your thoughts. We clean up after our dogs everytime........and we clean up after other dog owners who do not.... Because we don't want our dogs to walk in it.

RE: MONACO AIR LEVELING SYSTEM

I don't even need to chime in here. You will love it. One thing I read months ago was Monaco one piece windshields cracking when people use the hydraulic levelers that touch the ground. It may have been improper leveling techniques, I don't know. But I know I have never come close to having that problem on our Beaver. So, personally I think you will not only love it, but will appreciate the no stress on the chassis. I notice people commented on the system doing readjusting to itself. The first many times you will be surprised, but probably won't even pay any attention later on. My other suggestion is to be careful with the mud flap in the rear. I've crushed mine to a point where it is a mess. Someone should be outside watching and moving it as the back end drops. My wife runs the leveling inside, I watch now and try to pull it out or push it under while its doing its thing.

RE: good grief II: obnoxious cg owner

Best to move on..... Put a period at the end of the your report and move it out. There are a few of these RV Park Commando's roaming around. Personally, have run in to three out of probably a 100 who are wonderful.

Fuel milage by the pound

We have a 32,000 lb DP getting 7.5 MPG average towing a 4600 lb toad. We also have an Escalade at 6800 lb getting 14.1 MPG. It seems the Escalade should be getting at least twice the mileage or....the DP should be getting at least half of what it gets....on a per pound MPG. What's wrong with this picture? Don't get too technical on me here. I'm just thinking, not putting the calculator to this. :B

RE: DP Off the Road

It's a very natural reaction to swerve. That's the way our brain and body react to anything........a deer, a dog, a person, another vehicle. I've unfortunately hit two deer over the years, and I didn't have time to swerve, just nail the brakes. One deer was stuck under the coach and the highway patrol shot it. I was going about 25 MPH. The other bounced off the side and traffic was such that I could hardly slowdown, let alone stop, so I didn't. That time I was going about 55 MPH

RE: Having your RV towed.

Monaco products are the same way. You MUST disconnect the drive shaft before towing.... I suspect your in for big problems here both short term and long term.

RE: Cost of RV Parks

For example we enjoyed staying in Yellowstone much better that we would have enjoyed staying in West Yellowstone and having to drive into the park every day. ?? Its LESS than 1 mile from the Grizzly RV park to get INTO Yellowstone..and there is NO CAMPSITE inside Yellowstone thats as large as the sites at the grizzly??..LONG DISTANCE DRIVE????????? Yes, it is close to the front gate........but boy what a drive when inside. Anyway, I stay often enough in metro america. Love the outdoors idea. Bridge Bay felt like a thousand miles from everything convenient...and we had a view of Yellowstone Lake...

RE: Cost of RV Parks

Would you not agree it is all relative. The nicer... the newer...the more conveniences offered... A destination RV resort... the more the park costs. I'm not defending them, however, operating a business still as we do, everything keeps going up. We are under attack on property taxes, business income taxes, payrolls, utilities, on and on. We would like to pay $18 but often it's not our kind of park. We don't like the parks that have huge numbers of "long term" renters. They often look more like a trailer park than an RV park. Stuff everywhere. Plants, sheds, junk, cars. Maintenance is low or none existent, spaces are very small. Spaces are usually cramped and our neighbors are just a couple feet away. The good news................Regardless of the parks visual, or $18 or $75+, the people are all very nice, offer a friendly chat and help with anything we want or need. We seem to find many parks in the $27 to $40 range that suit us very well. At $18, it's probably a late afternoon stop and we are out the next morning. No multi day stays..

Here's one more suggestion. Join one or both of the following. Lots of resources from insurance and financing to camping locations and products/services. Too much stuff to list here.:C FMCA aka Family Motor Coach Association Good Sam Club

RE: What Do you Carry

All these things listed are important. How much storage room do you have? Everything is subject to that. We have a 38 DP and I don't have enough room! And we don't do this full time either. It will take you about a year as opposed to several trips to get geared up. Make a list, we did, we still do. But when we go out for a few days or for a few weeks, we have pretty much everything we will want or need. Here's a good suggestion though....... Use as much disposable dish stuff and you can....and make sure you buy and use the toilet tissues that dissolve while in the black tank so to not foul up your systems. Not fun to do lots of dishes or have black tank smells on these trips.

RE: BRAND NEW to RVing

If the option is there, absolutely rent first unless you just have money burning a hole in your pocket. We rented for 5 years before buying and think we bought exactly the right size, length etc. Yea, we spent more than we should have but believe if we take care of it we won't need to do it again. Plus, you buy retail and then sell wholesale, only to buy retail again. Renting can be a bit expensive but for us it was perfect. You know, things like "where are the cup holders for DW and myself/" Silly stuff until you don't have it in the right place. The considerations are many and you will want to experience it so when you are looking you will know what is right for you guys. We were interested in how much counter space, usable counter space there was. I wanted a DP for ride, power and other guy things. Belly storage was another big deal. Rent.....Its a little expensive but so helpful..

RE: Is anyone slowing down to get better mileage

It seems clear that 58 to 63 is the speed most of you are comfortable with, feel you are in the most control of your environment. It also seems that the mileage doesn't change much if you are 2-3 MPH faster or slower for most of you. I particularly liked one comment about being able to buy a few more gals of gas, but not being able to buy more time in life. Personally, I like 62 MPH and that's what I drive at. But if I am passing you or someone else, I don't like being beside you either, so I will press the metal more to get around you and well in front for both our protections. And, lastly, I get 7.2 MPH towing in ideal conditions. You know, no head or cross wind, relatively flat with minimal hills and a good stead pace. Without good conditions, it drops to 6.5-6-7. I use the cruise control every opportunity I get too.
